aptitude is a sizeable program with many features, and it can be a bit overwhelming for new users to get acquainted with it. This chapter does not exhaustively describe the features of aptitude (see Chapter 2, aptitude reference guide for that), but it does provide a walk-through of the basic and most commonly used features of the program.
